What Is Pocket Reduction?

Pocket reduction surgery, also known as gingival flap surgery, is a dental procedure performed to treat periodontal disease. The process involves lifting the gums to access and clean the deep pockets formed between the gums and teeth, effectively reducing the pocket depth and preventing further infection.

What are the risks and benefits of the procedure?

Pocket reduction surgery – a procedure aimed at treating periodontal disease and restoring your oral health.

While the procedure can effectively reduce the depth of gum pockets and prevent tooth loss, it does come with some inherent risks, including infection and temporary sensitivity. However, with the use of local anesthesia, the surgery is generally not painful. Recovery time varies, and most individuals can resume their normal activities within a few days.

Your oral health is our priority, and our experienced team is ready to guide you towards a healthier smile. Schedule a consultation today!

How is this procedure performed?

Once the gum tissue is frozen, the gum will be pushed back to expose the debris on the root surface.

The calculus debris is removed with scalers and curettes- if tenacious, a water sonic machine can be used.

What to Expect After Pocket Reduction Surgery

After undergoing pocket reduction surgery, it is normal to experience some mild discomfort and swelling in the treated area. We recommend following post-operative instructions to the best of your ability, including taking prescribed medications and maintaining good oral hygiene. Avoiding hard or crunchy foods for a few days can aid in the healing process. It’s important to attend follow-up appointments to monitor progress and for optimal results. About the Practice

At our dental practice, we offer pocket reduction surgery to address periodontal disease and promote better oral health. This procedure aims to reduce the depth of periodontal pockets, which are spaces between the gums and teeth where bacteria can grow and cause damage.

During the surgery, our skilled dental professionals carefully clean the affected areas and remove any bacteria or infected tissue. The gums are then positioned to create a snug fit around the teeth, minimizing the pockets and preventing further bacteria buildup. This process facilitates the healing of gum tissue and helps restore your oral health.
